Project introduction
Cuba is a traditional sugar exporter and has a long history in the sugar industry, including a sugar factory in the city of Sego Avila, where much of the equipment is old and damaged. There are many steam turbines during the crushing and milling of sugar cane.
The old cane mill line using steam turbines had the following disadvantages:
(1)Steam pressure instability
Normally steam turbine control steam pressure by valve. By this way it can’t adjust pressure smoothly, so the steam pressure is instability. For this point, when sugarcane milling sugarcane is easily getting stuck and whole sugarcane mill line will be stop.
(2)Low rate of sugar extraction
Due to steam pressure is instability and sugarcane milling running not smoothly, it will impact sugar extraction rate.

Application and Advantage
After using a soft starter, there are some main advantages as follows:
(1)Sugarcane mill stability
With the application of a soft starter, the mill can run smoothly over a wide speed range and the torque can be automatically adjusted according to the sugar cane capacity.
(2)Increase sugar extraction ratio
The soft starter can automatically adjust the speed and torque, so that the sugarcane grinding thoroughly and fully. The whole system can improve the extraction rate of sugar.
(3)Increase grid line power factor
The grid line power factor is over 0.97. It can increase efficiency of the grid.
(4)IEnergy saving
The sugarcane mill is not running at full speed and power all the time. The real running situation depend on sugarcane capacity and sugar production. When it run at low speed, there is much energy saving.
Conclusion
Compared with the old technology, the soft starter drive method has many advantages. In particular, the extraction rate of sugar was increased. The revamped soft starter system worked well and the customer was satisfied with our solution.
